A Taste of Mardi Gras
In 2025, our Social Committee introduced a Mardi Gras celebration to the Poplar Run neighborhood for the first time, bringing neighbors together to enjoy the spirit, culture, and joy that make the season so special. The response was enthusiastic, and it was clear there was excitement around making Mardi Gras part of our neighborhood’s event lineup.
This year, we’re building on that foundation with “A Taste of Mardi Gras”, a new take on the celebration and a different kind of experience.
Rather than a traditional sit-down gathering, “A Taste of Mardi Gras” is designed as a casual, walk-through event. Neighbors are invited to stop by at their own pace, explore festive stations, learn a bit about Mardi Gras traditions, snap a quick photo, and take home a small taste of the season. It’s intentionally lighter, more flexible, and well-suited for a weeknight.
Mardi Gras has never been a one-size-fits-all celebration. Across communities and cultures, it shows up in many forms — and even here in Silver Spring, it doesn’t need to look the same every year. This year’s format reflects that spirit of variety while keeping the focus on connection, tradition, and fun.
Whether you stay for a few minutes or make your way through the full experience, “A Taste of Mardi Gras” is an invitation to celebrate in a way that fits your evening, and to enjoy seeing this new neighborhood tradition continue to evolve.
